Welcome, neighbors and friends!

If you live in Anne Arundel County's Council District 1, I hope to become your next Council member.

Our Council member is our first-level elected representative. That means she is the person in our County's legislative branch that is closest to the communities in her district. Our Council member should be the elected representative who is most familiar with our communities' needs and their hopes, their priorities, their values. She should be our communities' most persistent advocate on the Council and within County government. She should bring a consistent, transparent, passionate voice to every relevant forum to champion our communities' strengths. She should always keep in view a larger vision for our communities, for where we fit within the County and surrounding areas; for how we can not only be a part of, but lead change and growth for our future.

I'm running for Anne Arundel County Council because I believe I can be that person for District 1.

  • I care not only about my community, Jessup, but about the welfare of our entire surrounding area.
  • I care about how well our County government functions, in reality, for our residents -- of all ages and demographics.
  • I care about solving the practical problems that impact our communities every day, from the provision of the most basic services, such as school bus stops, to convenient access to adequate public recreation facilities.
  • I care about prioritizing school funding in order to give our teachers the full resources they need to do their jobs.
  • I care about paying our teachers and our first responders to reflect the importance of their jobs to our communities.
  • I care about the development process and want to increase transparency, accountability, and community engagement.

And I see our District not as simply the northern/western edge of Anne Arundel County, but as the place that puts the "central" in Central Maryland -- now and for many, many years to come.

I hope to meet many of you as I go door-to-door. I look forward to listening to your concerns and learning about what you value in our communities, and to strategizing with you on how we can improve District 1.

(Yes, I'm beginning campaigning in the spring, but I intend to see you this fall, too.)

Thank you for taking the time to visit my campaign website!

Best regards,

- Sarah Lacey

Gun Violence: Patterns, Solutions, and Hope

Last weekend, I attended the Gun Violence: Patterns, Solutions and Hope forum organized by Karen Simpson. I appreciated this opportunity to hear different opinions about guns and gun sense in our state. If elected to the County Council, I am committed to reducing gun violence by supporting community health initiatives and providing adequate resources for our county police.

The next forum will be held August 26th, on addiction and recovery.
